Research and Development

Bioclone’s experienced and innovative R & D section has been responsible for the development of the current range of kits of which the ELEGANCE amplified ELISA system is one of the more recent additions. An expansion of activities involving technical transfer of products from Bioclone’s parent company, Hitachi Chemical Co., Ltd. Japan, has also broadened their expertise.  The Australian and New South Wales governments have recognised Bioclone’s potential and have assisted with R & D grants and loans.

Ongoing projects include:

n            Development of an expanded range of ELISA kits: New ELISAs are under development which will increase the product range to meet market demands. Some significant innovations and improvements in ELISA technology will be incorporated as part of this ongoing project.

n            Antibody development: New hybridomas are developed as required for in-house use or on a contract basis.

Bioclone’s excellent reputation for contract manufacturing and R & D has been established through highly successful partnerships with many satisfied clients.

Some of Bioclone’s significant achievements include:

n            Development of an ELISA kit for an experimental AIDS palliative care agent.

n            Conversion of immunoassays using chromogenic substrate to tests using a chemiluminescent substrate.

n            Large-scale contract manufacturing of a veterinary range of immunodiagnostic tests.

n            Contract iodination and purification of research reagents.

n            Contract freeze drying of biological reagents.

n            Scale-up of technical transfer products for successful worldwide marketplace entry. These activities include: release of a suite of highly species-specific anti-Chlamydia antibody ELISAs; a Urinary Iodine test for iodine deficiency disorders.

n            Contract R&D of an ELISA for the detection of early stage cancer.
